The Most Beautiful Song

Working with the elderly, you learn to appreciate the things we take for granted. You also discover the most beautiful things that can bring a warmth to your soul and become imprinted on your heart.

In my experience, the saddest and scariest thing about aging is Alzheimer’s Disease. Working with these beautiful souls is one of my greatest pleasures and saddest moments as well as it is where I have learned the most and experienced beautiful moments.

There is one beautiful moment that stands out for me and that is when music transformed a silent, withdrawn and confused woman into a singing and responsive individual. The lovely lady I am talking about has had a severe stroke and has dementia and is in a long term care facility. In her past, she danced ballet in Europe and sang Opera in England but has not sang since her stroke.

I had bought a Side Walk Prophets CD and played for her and she began to attempt to sing along with the music, even attempting to change notes and levels while singing. This was amazing to watch her do and it was a beautiful sound.

Another awe inspiring moment was hearing this wonderful woman attempt to practice Operatic singing with and without music playing, even though it was sadly off key and words made no logical sense it was the most beautiful song.

Every day since then, she will sing her song to me and share her love of music with me while listening and aiming to any music we hear. It is heart warming as you can see parts of the Opera singer coming out of her and watch a smile form on her face when you ask “are you singing?”

I encourage everyone to spend a day with an elderly person because it will change your life for the better and you will never be the same. Our elderly are the greatest teachers and bravest warriors as they have survived so many trials and tribulations in their lifetime.

Take a moment, share your time, open your mind and listen not just with your eyes but with your heart.

Liebster Nomination

Liebster Award –

“ It’s a blogger-to-blogger award that tells a fellow newbie blogger that they are making the world a more interesting /intellectual /funny /better place. For a lot of us, it comes just when we’re facing that first blogger’s block or wondering if it’s all worth it. For the rest, it’s a shower of accolades. Either way, it’s a great thing. Book review

I just finished reading the most beautiful, yet sad story and I was compelled to tell my fellow bloggers.

I just finished reading “Worth Fighting For” by Lisa Neimi Swayze and I am not afraid to say this book brought tears to my eyes.

I have always loved Patrick Swayze as an actor no matter what role he played, but reading about his valiant fight and determination to live made me love him as a person too. He fought a good battle and kept his sense of humour and charm about him.

I would give this book all 5 big glowing stars and recommend to anyone and everyone!! I will also be looking to add to my personal collection!!

Sail Without Winds

Each year I have travelled along your side
Every moment we share fills me with pride
The journey may not have been easy to bare
Outcomes have sometimes been unfair
Sorrow and sadness found us it’s true
Many struggles and disappointments
we have been through
Here we stand still united as one now
We made it through the rocky waters somehow
I write this note so filled with love for who you are
Without you, I am like sails without wind
I wouldn’t make it on my own too far!

Happy Mother’s Day

Happy Mothers Day to all my followers, fans and friends who are mothers, grandmothers, moms to be and of course to those who are mothers if angel babies, mothers who have lost children!

I know Mothers Day is usually a difficult time for me because May 15th 2007 was my first miscarriage – we found out Mothers Day weekend we were pregnant and 2 days later at 5 am at hospital I lost baby!!
It usually gave me a double edge of heat break and I usually am asking for help to cope with day!!

This year something came through for me – out of the blue today my husband gives me flowers and a card saying Happy Mothers Day from dog!! We have had dog 8 years and he never has done this before!!

It was like the Angels and universe finally heard me and knew i needed an ordinary miracle!!

And weird thing just now my lights in bathroom flickered twice and stopped and light switch inside!!

Thank you to my loving husband, my spirit guides and angels!!!

Defeat or Victory: Earth’s Final Act

Take in the essence of the earth
Take time to marvel at the majestic views
Views of greens and blues scattered
Scattered among hues of colours

Colours so vibrant and clear
Colours that represent life
Life that sustains and is nurturing
Nurturing the hungry souls

Souls roam the earth carelessly
Souls take for granted what can be lost
Lost suddenly without warning to spare
Spare the earth the torture of the abused

Abused by litter tossed aside
Abused by air sick with diseases
Diseases from pollution lingering
Lingering germs contaminating all

All it takes is simple respect
All you need is concern
Concern for mankind’s health
Health of all living beings

Beings to show compassion
Compassion for all living things
Things to consider as you walk around
Around us life has a story to tell

Tell all you know now is the time
Tell those who will listen to think
Think of how your actions play
Play the part in either earth’s victory
Or earth’s sad defeat
